SUMMER INTENSIVE HOUSING
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Below are some answers to some frequently asked questions regarding our Chaperoned Housing.

Does a parent/guardian need to accompany the student at check-in?

Students do not need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian at check-in. If arriving solo, please ensure the student has submitted all required forms via email. You may also download, print and sign hard copies and send them along with your student. Forms will be available in our Housing Hub before June 1. Forms include an Off-Campus Release Form, Authorized Adults Form, and a Transportation Release Form.

What airport should I fly into?

Does Backhausdance provide transportation to and from the local airports?

Backhausdance does not provide transportation to and from local airports. Here is a list of shuttle options available at Santa Ana airport (SNA). Two popular shuttle services include SuperShuttle and Primetime.

What time does check-in begin?

Check-in begins at 3pm on Sunday. Students arriving earlier than 3pm may not be able to access their room.

How do we get to know other housing students?

A room list will be provided a few days before arrival. We also host a meet-and-greet by the pool each Sunday at 6pm. Dancers are requested to attend this weekly get together on their arrival day.

How do I get to and from the hotel to the studios each day?

The Ayres Hotel Orange shuttle will provide daily transportation to and from the studios. The Shuttle Schedule will be available in the Housing Hub as well. The chaperones will assist in coordinating shuttle assignments each day.

The hotel provides complimentary daily breakfast. What about other meals?

The Ayres Hotel provides a complimentary daily hot and cold continental breakfast daily. With the exception of breakfast, students are responsible for providing their own additional meals.

The room comes equipped with a small refrigerator and microwave. Some suggestions for in-room dining options include:

  • Sandwiches (lunch meats, bread, condiments, etc)

  • Vegetables

  • Hummus

  • Instant Rice

  • Beans

  • Soups

  • Easy Mac

  • Trader Joe's Salads, Prepared Meals

There are also several dining options within walking distance of the Ayres Hotel Orange. A signed Off-Campus Permission Form must be received before a minor student will be allowed to leave campus in groups of two or more. If off-campus permission is not provided by a parent/guardian, we suggest students arrive prepared with meals to eat in-room.

At the studios, there is also a refrigerator, microwave and water fountain. The studios are just a few blocks away from Old Town Orange with a multitude of quick dining options.

Will my student be safe?

A BD Chaperone will be available on site at the Ayres Hotel Orange during non-intensive hours to ensure supervision. The chaperone is present to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the participants. In addition, the chaperone will closely supervise daily activities, transportation to/from the hotel, and incidental needs of the students. The chaperone will be supplied with a list of emergency contact information and any relevant medical information. Strict adherence to the Housing Guidelines by participants should be emphasized by parents prior to arrival.

What do students do on the weekends?

The Ayres Hotel Orange property features a heated outdoor pool, whirlpool spa, coin laundry, free wi-fi access, and fitness center. Many housing students use the weekend to rest their bodies, to catch some sun while lounging by the pool, or to do laundry.

Backhausdance hosts a weekly meet-and-greet by the pool every Sunday at 6pm. Dancers are encouraged to attend this weekly get together to review housing procedures and to get to know new and returning participants. Light snacks and refreshments are provided.

The BD chaperone remains on site and available throughout the weekend. Only students ages 18 and up and minors with an authorized Off-Campus Release Form will be allowed to leave campus without a chaperone.
